We all hate change, really.. admit it… fiddling for the sake of it and just a little improvement here.. a tweek there and before you know it… it’s a very different beast in front of you… and guess what social media platforms do this all the time… especially facebook.
However, sometimes… change is good… There are a few issues with the NEW facebook pages.. (fan, like, business… whatever you wish to tag them with) like the weighting is a pain to get your head around… even worse for you readers… thank goodness facebook removed it and gave us the top news and chonological order tabs back at the top!
There is also an edit button for posts in the offing. Some people can actually see this now… but beware it is because the enter button has gone and been replaced by the return key so mid post when you thought you were getting another line you may find you send it mid sentence… a bit annoying.. just click on the x on the post and you may find you get an edit button for the post…
Being able to post as the page by picking the option from the right hand side is pretty cool. You can also like as a page and this is pretty useful when you are using tagging as you can now do this as your page… these likes as pages do not appear to be registered in the page likes yet… nor can you see a list of pages liking yours… yet… Here’s a quick breakdown of the changes..
1. Email Notifications:
You can opt to receive notifications when people post or comment on your facebook Page. Just click the edit info tab at the top of the page underneath your page name.
2. Featured Pages and Admins:
You can feature other facebook pages your Page likes, or admins of your Page, in the new “Likes” and “Page Owners” sections on the left side of your Page. Again these are in your edit options.
3. Mutual Connections:
When people visit your Page, they will be able to see friends who also like your Page, as well as other Pages that both they and your Page like.
4. Navigation:
The content that you formerly accessed by clicking the tabs at the top of your Facebook Page can now be found in the column underneath your Page profile picture. The text in the box that used to appear in the box underneath your Page profile picture will now appear in the Info tab.
5. No more tabs:
No more tabs at the top of the facebook fanpage….
You can see your apps on the left hand side under your picture now… You can see 8 of them including your wall and info. The rest are underneath and you can re-order them all to show in the best order other than the top two wall and info. Click edit at the bottom then just pick up the tab you want to move to wherever you want it moving to.
6. Photos at the Top:
The most recent photos that you post to the Wall of a Page you admin, or photos you tag your Page in, will appear here. This area will not include any photos posted by people who like your Page. Why not use this area for your latest offers and advertising or showcasing companies you have been working with?
7. Profile picture size:
The profile picture size for Facebook Pages now appears to by 500 x 180 get the most out of the space. This has changed twice recently and maydo so again!
8. Say sayonara to Static FBML:
No more static fbml…. No iframes… a few niggly things not working but most have made the transmission. The new way of posting has been picked up by many of the third party apps so shouldn’t really affect many people. Old static fbml pages are apparently going to be amendable but I would recommend you replace them with iframes.
9. Use Facebook as Your Page:
This is great you can now receive notifications for your Page, view a News Feed for your Page, and like and post on other Pages as your Page. Just swap posting or being you on the right hand side or from Account top right and swap to use as a page.
10. Wall Filters:
Facebook Pages now have two publicly visible Wall filters “Most Recent” and “Top Posts.” Page admins can also view “Hidden Posts” ie spam or those you have removed.
Naturally this is work in progress and we have now grown to expect change… what do you think…?

The possibility of posting as a page or as a person is an interesting development. It explores another aspect of the question whether your brand should speak with an individual or a company voice.
Lisa Attias
Indeed it does… and yes Lisa there are fors and againsts… however being able to speak as me on the page too is something I find works very well…
