Is silence really golden? What if… you lost all of your twitter connections…

… no twits tweeting on your parade… no updates… no twellow, no twibbons tempting you to join a campaign, no noise… just the sound of silence… oer!

There are lots of apps on the market to back your lifeline up… you can start with Tweetake which will send you a funky little .csv file… now what else can I do with this…. hmmm use the marketing feature on my facebook fanpage to invite them all to it… two birds with one stone so to speak… it looks a bit like this by the way

There is also Tweetbackup which only backs up your tweets not your followers etc… but apparently the rest may be coming soon…

Now it’s all very well rescuing your twitter connections… but what about LinkedIn, Youtube and Facebook?  Well fear not!

LinkedIn is all very easy… you just need to log in to your account.  Pick the connections section and scroll all the way to the bottom…

You can see a section to export your connections… guess what?  Another .csv file…

Facebook is just as simple…

Go to your account > account settings > then scroll down to download your information.

An email will be sent to you when it is ready… you will have to verify your account to get the info… :-)

And whilst we are being good, how about a “How to download your Youtube videos” ?

  • Sign in with your account
  • Go to http://www.youtube.com/my_videos
  • Now look for Download MP4 button.  This will be availble in each of the videos.
  • Click on it and save it in your computer.
For your website and blogs you should also be scheduling backups on a regular basis too and ManageWP will help you do that – get a free version for up to 3 accounts.

So are we all safely backed up and happy?  Good shall we schedule a repeat next month?  Same time… same place?  Is that a date then…? cos I wouldn’t want to think you didn’t care…

It easy to get carried away doing things but you really should be thinking about looking after your digital assets and your content could be very important to you and your business so scheduling regular backups is like taking a shower.. needs to be done often and should not be an optional extra…

Have you lost anything by not backing up? We’d love to hear about your narrow escapes or total disasters… if you need a hand getting going then give us a shout and we will point you in the right direction.. we may even have youtube videos that can help you get started, if we haven’t just ask and we are delighted to share and create one for you… just ask!
