It is always appreciated when customers tell you what they have got out of your work and this is a very rewarding world.  These are just a few of the testimonials received at The Social Media Cafe.

Angus Grady   “Amanda and The Social Media Cafe have had an enormous positive impact on our business. The training that Amanda and The Social Media Cafe provide, often free, has enabled Customeyes to get new business from a range of clients including a National brand. Her training on LinkedIn,FaceBook and Twitter as well as the on going support that The Social Media Cafe FaceBook group provides is superb. Amanda is so ahead of the game in terms of expertise, understanding and sheer customer service that I unreservedly recommend her as someone that you need to talk to when it comes to Social Media. There are “Experts” out there who can not get close to Amanda and the sheer depth and extent of her knowledge.” January 3, 2012

Elton Boocock   “Amanda is a social media genius! She is the expert’s expert and one who I would readily turn to to keep my own skills sharpened. She understands how the social media technology plays out into business objectives and results. Quite rare in this industry.
If you need genuine results, call her.” November 30, 2011

Natalie Pank  “Having attended The Social Media Cafe – Social Media Training, I left feeling I had gained a wealth of knowledge and the training to put my ideas to practice, also feeling confident knowing I also had the support of Dave and Amanda.
The two day course was very informative and pro-active, I was taught not only how to do things, but how they fit with our business model and how to maximise our opportunity.” October 21, 2011

“Amanda has a wealth of knowledge and is a specialist in her field, the training she provided me with has given me the tools and motivation to move our business along. Amanda is a pleasure to work with and no task it too much. I would recommend her services to all businesses wishing to move into Social Media.” October 5, 2011

Sam Grimes  “I recently attended a Social Media Cafe, “Social Media Masterclass” which was run by Dave and Amanda. Dave is most definately extremely knowledgeable in this area. His teaching style is interesting and keeps you engaged. The masterclass content was extensive and although I felt that my knowledge was a bit more advanced than others in the group, there was still a tremendous amount of additional info that I didn’t know.

However, the most valuable aspects of the masterclass for me was the actual “doing what we were learning as we learnt it”, the “key learning points” after each section and the great folder that was provided as support. Every time I learn more about social media (and anything for that matter), I just want to go away and action everything. The format of this masterclass meant that I could leave not only having already actioned a number of things (and acheived some great results), but also that I’ve got something to support me and to read through and revisit as I continue to develop our social media profiles. Dave asked what the most valuable / key learnings were at the end of each session which was a really great concept as these learning and point have been transformed into my “to do” list.

I’d definitely recommend this masterclass to those who want to develop their social media profiles for business, it covered a tremendous amount so be prepared to leave with your brain buzzing!” October 19, 2011

“Amanda knows her stuff – full stop. I recently attended a social media masterclass run by Amanda and Dave from The Social Media Cafe and was really impressed with Amanda’s knowledge of all aspects of social media. It’s always great to see someone that’s passionate about what they’re talking about – it not only makes it much easier to learn from them, but also inspires you to improve your own skills as much as you can. I’d highly recommend that anyone wanting to increase their social media profile and / or develop their social media skills to give Amanda a call.” October 23, 2011

Dave Griffin   “Amanda is the secret weapon that you don’t want your competitors to find out about. She is extremely creative which when paired with her expert knowledge make her a priceless asset to your business. Not only that but she gets results and that is refreshing in a world where a lot of “Social Media Experts” don’t deliver the goods. I am a social media specialist and like Amanda get good results for my clients. However, Amanda is the person I will always turn to for the best quality tools, techniques and systems for really bringing in more profits. Amanda uses these systems everyday and is constantly updating them to sustain your advantage within the ever changing world of social media marketing. She is very much the “go to” person for your social media marketing.” June 20, 2011

I attended a social media course that Amanda put on, and I’ll be the first one to admit I was sceptical. Even though I very much enjoyed the course, I didn’t actually know anyone who could quantifiably tell me they were making money as a result of social networking, but having paid for the training I was determined to ‘give it a go’ and see what happened. I’m glad I did! In just a few days I was receiving enquiries as a result of what I had learnt and started to grow my followers on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. This has been great as I am now able to tell my contacts I am (quantifiably) making money from social networking and learn more so I can win work on an on-going basis. Amanda is knowledgeable and helpful and fantastic value. Get involved!!.

If anyone’s wondering about Social Media,, give Amanda a call, is this is a shameless plug? Well, yes, but Amanda has helped us create a full facebook campaign including facebook ads (which alone saves me 50% on my marketing budget), and a full twitter campaign – does it work? Well social media sent over 38% of traffic to my site last month, so you better believe it!!! A very very satisfied customer

Amanda spent three hours with me today setting up my social media. She’s extremely knowledgeable, very patient and knows how to put complex ideas across in an easy-to-understand way. I’m now ready to go and that’s exactly where I wanted to be – thanks so much Amanda. I thoroughly recommend you.

I attended Amanda’s Social Media for Business seminar recently. Got full understanding how to utilize it for my business marketing & lead development and to have some fun at the same time. After-seminar support is also there for those who needs it. Highly recommend. Will use again.

Think of Social Networking like dating for business…

think about social media as dating for business

You really want to impress… you have spent ages making sure you look the part… not too over the top of course… but an effort has been made… you think about what to say, what they look like, what they enjoy doing and perhaps even where to meet…

First things first… you’ve put up a decent picture on your social media sites… no not the 5 year old one taken with a very forgiving lens… a recent, clear image of what you actually look like…

You’ve sent out a few things… maybe the odd tweet or two or a few facebook pictures… a taster of how you think and what you like is cool… even better… someone has responded and started chatted.  Gulp… what do you do now?  Social networking can get spark magic… it may have been nothing at all about what you do.. but something you have said has made someone connect so keep the spark alight and fan the flames.

Natural conversation, don’t force it.  Go with the flow… they like you so you are on the right track… just be gentle and interact… grab a glass of wine if it helps… shhh they won’t know and I won’t tell.

Now one thing can lead to another and before you know it you have been interacting on-line for a few weeks… and this social networking thing has really started to rocket… in fact… you may even be meeting someone you have met on-line… woooah… quite scary.  So that random tweet about a television programme has somehow lead to you meeting a business or personal contact.. fabulous!  That is really all it is about… yes you can do loads more with it, the viral nature of everything is very powerful as is the 6 degress of separation stuff… but you know what it’s just the same on as off-line… you are allowed to be curious, ask questions and delve a little deeper before you commit to anything more than a passing post… try it… it’s fun!

Oh and this is where you will be pleased you used a current photograph… you may have just set up your business on it’s first not so blind date so you should at least start off on the right foot… be real, be you and be honest… it does pay dividends… oh and listen… there is nothing worse than someone parttling on about how great they are… this should be a two way thing… if there is an attraction it may lead to another… good luck!

Friend or Foe? How to handle unfriending on social media

unfriending on facebook

Social media is all about connections.  However there are some people you may not want to stay in contact with so here are some ways of managing your social media and disconnecting from people you need to sever ties with.

You can use this free facebook application to check people who have moved away from you on facebook… people who unfriend you will flash up on the top right… Just refresh and  they clear.  Warning if you are of a nervous disposition don’t do this… can you handle the “rejection”? It does get easier and the more you use it for people you don’t really know the easier it gets.

To remove friends on facebook it is now very easy… just pick friends from the left hand menu then edit friends on the top right hand side.  You will probably have to change the pull down menu from recently interacted to “All Friends” which gives you an alphabetical list.   On Linkedin you can cull your connections here and if they try to reconnect they get an error from linkedin saying they can’t complete the process at present.  If they ask to reconnect just allow ignore them. On twitter if you overuse your twitter account with constant drivel you should expect to be unfollowed and unless you are using this you will never know who or when… or if you have completely missed the point and forgotten to use it little and often then this app may have been used to dispatch you to the great abyss beyond… I believe that pruning your connections is probably a great way to promote new growth… but open to debate on this… do you want a huge tribe around you that may or may not be listening or a focused group of confidantes and collaborators?

Social Media Marketing… why does it work…?

Does social media work?

Well there are a number underlying factors… but let’s look at just a few of them… and don’t worry none of them are rocket science…

1.  Fundamentally the human being is a nosey creature… we want to know what other people are doing and the twitchy net curtain brigade have migrated to the internet.    So when facebook updates show activities, pages, friending activity we want to see who, where, when or what someone we know is looking at and so do their friends… and so it ripples outwards causing a chain reaction.

2.  When we see someone do something we want to find out more and certain people feel the need to be better than their peers… the old “keeping up with Jones’” mentality… so when we see competitors or peers have or are doing something it creates a need to to the same…

3.  Sometimes just a silly thing will trigger a reminder to do something… prompting us to promote tasks on our things to do list… you know the “oh yes I must get around to that one day” especially when you see or have recommended to you the right person for the job.  So social media gives an opportunity of being in the right place, at the right time, more of the time.. just a simple update of something meaningless may trigger a reminder of what you do to someone who needs it or to someone who volunteers your services or goods to a friend.

4.  We like to help people.. really… actually we are quite polite and courteous as a rule and often naturally recommend things or people we like without even thinking about it.  Some savvy entrepreneusr have even made some serious businesses out of this generous spirit and they have labelled it networking… think BNI, 4networking, Ecademy, Athena and myriad others.

4.  We like to know others agree with our choices… so seeing someone has endorsed a brand, person or product on-line make us more likely to do the same… part of the herd mentality and wanting to fit in or perhaps just to have an endorsement by someone we trust…?  In fact we are likely to be influenced by others we don’t even know… so perhaps this power is even greater than trust…?  Now that could be an interesting argument…

5.  Statistics (yes I know there are lies, lies and damned statistics) for one company showed the buying likelihood of someone recommended via a social media source to be 71% as opposed to 7% from someone hitting the site cold… that is a pretty serious number…  I am putting it down to the person only clicking through on a link via social media recommendations because they have a high level of interest already and therefore I believe the pool of potential is more concentrated than general traffic… still pretty serious stuff though.

6.  It only costs you time (well ok there are a few things that make life easier.. that cost a little) but can connect you to people and businesses on your doorstep… and their contacts and friends… relatively easily, painlessly and quickly… and anything that reaches a relatively high level of people in a pretty short space of time is definitely worth a punt… because you really don’t have lots to lose…

7.  We love to please people… and guess what…? Some of them appreciate it and want to reciprocate…  Just how hard is it to pass on knowledge or contacts? Easy right?  And helping someone makes you feel good… so you do it again… probably on auto pilot!

8.  It’s fun… really your own on-line wine bar… with no bar bill or hangover… chill, enjoy, chat and be genial and see what happens…

To understand what you want to achieve with your social media marketing you should have a plan… who are you targetting?  what do you want to achieve? how are you going to do this? why are you doing it? where are your target market?  These are just a few of the questions you should be asking… plus how are you going to measure what is actually working… get in touch if you want a one page plan to track your own… happy to help.
