Why someone may not say “yes” to your friend request on facebook #facebook #socialmedia

Today I had a facebook clear out… my 35 outstanding friend requests I have is nothing compared to a client I am working through over 290 outstanding ones…

Anyway I digress… some I said yes to immediately and put in a list… some I deleted without blinking – those without a profile picture.. if you cannot be bothered to put a picture on your profile I probably won’t connect… others I left and came back to for further investigation.  This entails a few questions… Does it say I know x number of people connected to them?  If so who are they… oh yes they are from this networking group or that online thing… so connections duly made and lists added to… (what do you mean you are not using lists?).  Could I possibly have met them recently? Where do they live?

Now the hard ones are those with pictures who have no connections in common.. like one I spotted today from a female who lives in Milton Keynes… no connections in common but something in the eyes… I know you… but not your name.. actually it wasn’t the name it was the surname I didn’t know or recognise in relation to the area she lives… hmmm further investigation required….

OMG someone I was at school with… which is really wierd as I am connected to very few (if any???) people I was at school or college with… woah and she is really very close… just up the road in Milton Keynes and decided at the weekend to look me up…  Watch this space for an update…

Now there is a quicker way to get me to click yes… the little bit that says leave a message… if you say to me “Hi Amanda I met you at…” or “I know such and such” or “you were recomended to me by…” I will probably do it immediately… instead of you waiting in my pending list that may or may not get the response you were hoping for… now this is not a failsafe method but it is much more sociable than just firing off friend requests willy nilly… it may even get your friends list looking healthier.

Don’t get upset if someone says no… they may also have a fanpage and want to interact with you there… many do.  They don’t get the way you can separate business and friends on facebook and feel more comfortable or may have actually hit their limit on facebook of 5,000 connections (well do you really know 5,000 friends because I am sure I don’t!)… Whatever the reason people say no or don’t respond just move on and don’t worry… soon you will be wondering what to do with them all… :-)
