As I always do… I turned up to vote on Thursday… I didn’t have local elections but did have the vote on should we be changing the voting system… when I went in about 4pm they had seen 100 people from 7am… so if they had posted in on facebook would the turn out be higher…?
I am certain it would… it takes miliseconds to click with no effort, pens, booths, bored assistants, school halls… sure there needs to be security but that could easily be sorted… and in these times of saving money well… facebook or any social media for that matter has got to be a winner!
I think we are in for lots of changes in many things we do using social media mediums… as that is where people are increasingly spending their time… games, catching up and generally engaging with others and they are taking their social media with them on their phones… so it really isn’t going to go away any time soon… and why not? If it saves time, money and increases enjoyment or even better gets people involved in something they can’t be bothered with… like politics and local elections… then why not?
What do you think? A facebook poll instead of the general election or local government elections? A facebook fanpage for each candidate to interact with their electorate and answer questions and a really social way of managing media? Well don’t laugh… I think the way of the future is going to be somewhat different to now and social media will be playing a huge part… and who knows facebook could replace the Thursday afternoon trek to the school hall… if you bother…
